Program Description

  • Undergraduate Program

    The undergraduate program takes between four and six years. In exceptional cases, students may apply for graduation after three year. Minimal requirement for admittance is a high school diploma. Students receive a comprehensive training in all fundamental areas of mathematics and can choose from a wide range of elective courses (for a list of courses plus description see here and here). A minimum of 128 credits are required for graduation. Further information and requirements can be found here and here. Upon completion, students are awarded the Bachelor degree.


  • Master Programs

    The department offers three master programs: Analysis and Geometry, Combinatorics, and Scientific Computation and Modeling. Each program takes between two and four years (two and five for part-time students). In exceptional cases, students may apply for graduation after one year. Minimal requirement for admittance to all programs is a bachelor degree. A list of courses with description can be found here and here. Students must complete at least 24 credits. Moreover, students have to complete a master thesis under supervision of a faculty member. The thesis has to be defended in front of a committee consisting of 3 to 5 examiners. Further information and requirements can be found here and here. Upon completion, students are awarded the Master degree.


  • PhD Program

    The PhD program takes between three and seven years (three and eight years for part-time students). In exceptional cases, students may apply for graduation after two years. Minimal requirement for admittance is a Master degree (or in some cases a bachelor degree see here). Students are required to pass at least one qualification exam after two years and two after three years (for exceptions for students on leave or students who are admitted with a bachelor degree see here). Students have to complete at least 18 credits. Moreover, students have to prepare a thesis under supervision of a faculty member. The thesis has to be defended in front of a committee consisting of 5 to 7 examiners. Further information and requirements can be found here. Upon completion, students are awarded the PhD degree.
